"THE ARRIVAL" - JASON FOBISTER
Jason Fobister lives in the First Nations Reserve of Grassy Narrows in Canada. His art is inspired by nature, humanity and love.
"The Arrival - I spoke against drugs and alcohol when I was 18 as I had friends doing drugs and alcohol and also I lost family members to depression. I spoke about it in school and someone said that we should recognize him as there is something special about him.
So, during that ceremony, I had a little dream that I was an eagle and I am flying from the west over a lake and by the time ceremony was over, they told me that my spirit sits in the east and I look out towards the west. So, I saw my spirit coming from west to come meet me.
Having a pipe (First Nations award) is a privilege given to you to carry for people and to understand life more closely. It gave me the opportunity to pray and to learn to pray. Life is not just air and rocks, there is a spiritual side to life. Everything is made up of energy and everything is attracted towards that energy.
