"THE GIFT" - JASON FOBISTER
Jason Fobister lives in the First Nations Reserve of Grassy Narrows in Canada. His art is inspired by nature, humanity and love.
The eagle is a messenger in our culture because he can fly high and talk to the creator. This is a representation of a traditional story. There was once this man who was really sick and he had powers to talk to animals. He goes to the beaver to climb the tree and tell my wishes to the Creator. The beaver goes and comes back with a bear, the man asks if the bear could climb the tree and talk to the Creator. The bear says I cannot do that, but I have a friend who might and comes back with an Eagle. The eagle says that I can only fly to a certain limit, but I will try, so the eagles flies out into the sky and the eagle is close to the Creator and delivers the mans wishes. The Creator send a gift to the man in the form of a feature. If you notice in the painting closely, there is a feature missing. The whole painting is in colors that capture the spiritual nature of this story.
